This is an exciting year long project you can do with your class! You will need the book Down in the Cool of the Pool, a matching stuffed animal and a durable folder. I like to use the plastic poly folders with fasteners and pockets.
Each week you will draw a name and send all three items home with that student. They will read the story with their parents and bring the stuffed animal on whatever adventure they choose. Before the weekend is up they will need to complete 1 journal page sharing their "adventure" and then illustrate a picture or post a photograph. Each year I get so many additional pictures that the families want to share and end up creating a photo album in the back of the journal. Make time the following Monday for the student to share their "adventure" with the rest of the class!
The journal pages are indented on the left to provide space for hole-punching and fastening to a folder. If it looks a little off-center to you, that is the reason!
You will need to print 1 copy of each page:
-Cover page (P.3)
-Photo album (P.7)
You will need to print multiple copies of these pages:
-Journal pages (P.5-P.6) *at least 1 for each student
-Extra photo album pages (P.8) *I usually need between 5-10
Kohl's Cares sells children's books and stuffed animals for just $5 each. They change their promotions on a regular basis and put items from past promotions on clearance for half off!
