Dr. Daniel Hale Williams qualified as a doctor but was not allowed to work in hospitals because he was black. He established the Provident Hospital, the first hospital to have racially integrated staff. He also became famous as the second surgeon to have successfully performed open heart surgery (without the benefit of antibiotics).

You will love the simplicity of the craft and how it makes a great bulletin board!

You students will love this hands-on activity that will keep them engaged in their learning about an important figure in the medical field.

To enhance the medical kit bag you will need small medical supplies commonly found in schools, such as:

  • band-aids
  • q-tips
  • tongue depressors
  • antibacterial wipe packs
  • cotton balls

Included with this hands-on resource (check out the preview for a closer look):

  • Step-by-step directions with photos - project to your whiteboard or print out for groups.
  • All templates to make a first aid bag craft
  • Biographical information about Dr. Williams
  • Medical ID card in color and black and white with solid, broken line and blank box options. Students use these cards to write what they have learned about Dr. Williams
  • Bonus word search (perfect for your early finishers!)

Please note, you will need 18"x9" construction paper in black or brown to make the medical kit bag. Templates are in black and white and color and also differentiated with three different writing inlays.
