Geared toward the new 2015 English Literature Curriculum (UK), this lesson helps students to explore and interpret the idea of addiction linked to the character of Dr Jekyll. Students explore the idea of duality and addiction through video clips and discussion building their understanding of the dual characters of Jekyll and Hyde. Through making masks to show their ‘other’ side and putting a mime together, students are better prepared to interpret the state of both Jekyll and Hyde’s mind in the narrative. In addition to practicing interpretation skills, emphasis is also placed on analytical skills and checking good use of SPaG through peer assessment.
Note: the structure mountain worksheet and mask template is added at the end of the power point to be used for copying. You will need scissors and string for the mask.
