Shemaiah Joy has created a learning kit on the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The learning kit consists of 5 worksheets paired with videos that interactively guide students through the worksheets with visual effects, sound effects and related music. The kit is centered around the non-fiction biography entitled “A Picture Book of Martin Luther King, Jr.” Once students have watched the first video, where Shemaiah Joy reads the book, any worksheet and video pair can be completed. The best thing about the worksheets is that they are Common Core aligned with several RL, SL and W standards for 2nd , 3rd and 4th grades.
***THIS IS NOT THE ENTIRE KIT BUT IS AN INDIVIDUAL VIDEO PAIRED WITH THE EXPLANATION WORKSHEET
*A fun and rewarding activity for kids while still incorporating Common Core standards.
*Play this video for your students and watch them light up as they hear the story of Dr. Martin Luther King come alive through the voice of a child their age.
*Have students visit this website to view video on their pads or laptops:
*Once the story is over there are 4 additional Worksheets and supporting videos. You could put students into small stations to complete the various video guided worksheets.

WHAT LEARNING THEORY IS THIS TOOL BASED ON?
This 10 piece set (5 Videos and 5 Worksheets) us the Constructivism 5 E model; (1) engage, (2) explore, (3) explain, (4) extend and (5) evaluate. Because this learning theory allows students to share their own unique experience, it perfectly compliments Dr. King’s legacy of unifying people from diverse backgrounds.
We think it’s a great way for students to make meaningful connections between their personal lives and the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King’s life such as peace, appreciation for diversity and national unity.
Lit. Kids is a daughter and father team creating engaging learning videos.
