Lesson includes a literary passage and a literary response organizer about Martin Luther King Jr. Students will learn why he is an national hero that fought for civil rights. Students will learn the importance of his message, that all Americans should be treated fairly, no matter what their skin color.

Ways to use literary organizer:

1)Class lesson: have students read passage about Martin Luther King and then have them read the quote on top of the literary organizer. After, have them write a paragraph on what is the message portrayed through this quote.

2)Class lesson: have students get into groups. Have students read passage about Martin Luther King and then the quote on top of the literary organizer. After, have them a group write a paragraph on is the message portrayed through this quote.

3)Send home as homework. First, read the passage with the class Then give literary organizer for homework.

4)Display students’ responds on bulletin board!
