Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the most influential leaders who promoted civil rights in America. This PowerPoint uses the author's photographs of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington, DC to examine the role of Dr. King in the Civil Rights Movement. King's four major themes of justice, democracy, hope, and love are depicted by quotes that are on the memorial. Also the symbolism of the memorial is explained. Depicted in this presentation are scenes from the Jefferson Memorial which lend to the understanding of King's quote regarding that "all men are created equal." Finally, the author takes you to the Lincoln Memorial, the site of the 1963 March on Washington. There are photographs of the memorial, the exact location of King's famous "I Have a Dream" Speech, quotes from the speech, and pictures from that historic event. This PowerPoint is designed for intermediate and higher level students because it can promote discussion on a variety of levels. Please look for the primary version which I will be posting shortly.
