After read aloud, have students pick one noun and one animal to create a new animal for the zoo. They will illustrate, name, and describe their new creature in a brief informative paragraph. (My second grade friends are learning about adjectives, so I instruct them to highlight all adjectives in their paragraphs. Quick assessment!)
