This is a standards-based Dr. Seuss inspired resource. Students will use their plate placemat to sort CVC words into the correct word family. Before students can start another sort on their plate, they have to record their answers on the recording sheet. Next, students say the recorded words to the teacher and two other people (or stuffed animals). Repetition is key to success. Differentiate according to each student’s level of mastery. Laminate to use over and over.


  • 12 sets of green eggs with CVC word rhymes (4 rhymes in each set)

- 1 set with “i” vowel

- 2 sets with “a” vowel

- 2 sets with “e” vowel

- 4 sets with “o” vowel

- 3 sets with “u” vowel

  • 12 ham CVC word families
  • 1 plate placemat
  • 4 recording answer sheets
