Here is a cute idea for counting to ten and being artistic. Theo LeSieg, Ten Apples Up on Top. Give the students a long sheet of white paper. Let them glue the title: Ten _____s Up On Top at the bottom of the page. Then, allow them to draw the lion, dog, or tiger from the book or any other character and stack ten items upon the head of their character. I made ten balls on a sports player. Ten ice scream scoops on the dog, ten desserts on a tiger, etc. The kids created ten monkeys on a tree, ten cookies on a space alien, etc. It is so fun and take only one long sheet of white paper and pencil and markers. We did with Big and Little Friends! HAVE FUN! Great Read Across America Idea!
