In this Dr. Seuss Read Across America assignment, middle school students are given the opportunity to explore their once-loved Dr. Seuss books. They are given guided reading questions that relate to author's purpose/message, and then are provided the opportunity to write Dr. Seuss a letter describing a book they wish he would be able to write if he were still alive. The letter is to be on a social problem they see and think would be well addressed by a Dr. Seuss book.
Students are broken into groups to complete the guided reading questions, and must write their letter on their own.
Finally, the students can complete a text-dependent analysis question, analyzing their favorite Dr. Seuss quote.
