Dr. Seuss books are perfect for emerging readers. These sight word tally charts were created for individualized instruction, but would work great for small groups. Read through the indicated Dr. Seuss book, and have the student tally every time a sight word is read. After the book is completed, count up the resulting tallies.
I have personally gone through each of these books, keeping note of which words show up and how often to ensure that there will be 5 or more tallies for each word. Several different charts have been made for six different Dr. Seuss books:
"Cat in the Hat"
"One Fish, Two Fish"
"Green Eggs and Ham"
"I Can Read With My Eyes Shut"
"Ten Apples Up On Top"
"There's a Wocket in My Pocket"
