This Dr. Seuss's The Sneetches viewing guide, which has 16 open-ended critical thinking questions, can be used as a stand-alone activity, as part of a Dr. Seuss unit, as part of a unit on prejudice and discrimination, or (my favorite!) to introduce the classic novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
My students really enjoy exploring the concepts of stereotyping, bias, racism, and discrimination in this kid-friendly format. The questions prompt students to think deeper and more analytically about a cartoon that some have seen before and others have not.
Perfect for use as a whole-class discussion tool, for use with small groups or think-pair-share format, or even for use as individual seat work. This lesson is versatile, relevant, and engaging.
