Every student knows the stories of Dr. Suess. But very few know that he played a major role in World War II propaganda. Through analysis of Yertle the Turtle and his images students will be able to see how Suess showcased the horrific events of World War II through his famous drawing style and story prose.
This lesson takes 90 minutes and allows for students to analyze many different works. While Suess' work is made for younger children, your students will realize that there was a vastly different angle meant for the works of this key literary figure. Your students will enjoy and remember this lesson as mine have and will begin to analyze the works of all historical items differently there after.
