** Introduction **
This unit introduces children (grades 3-5) to the world of dragonflies. It covers the following topics: dragonfly bodies, movement, diet, habitat, life cycle, origins (prehistoric dragonflies). Each topic is made more concrete for the children by framing it in a question. For example, “What do dragonflies look like?” for dragonfly bodies. To provide both extra challenge and to allow you to dive deeper into the topic, there are optional slides with questions and answers. These are designed to practice critical thinking skills.
** FREE Bonus Unit **
This book comes with a science bonus unit, which is unrelated to dragonflies. This bonus unit, valued at $4.99, includes PowerPoints, worksheets, quizzes, answer keys, teacher notes, etc. This FREE bonus unit has 50-pages of materials.
** Classroom use **
There are two versions of the product: PowerPoint slides in .ppsx format and a pdf version. While both can be used with PowerPoint, the former might be preferable. You can use the pdf version to printout selected slides to be used to decorate your room or a bulletin board, in a science fair, in a science corner or learning center. Or you can simply print out the pdf version as a book. You’re free to print out as many copies as you like. You can also put the pdf version on a class website and use it as an e-book to access.
** Layout and Methodology **
Each page is beautifully laid out with engaging, sometimes, in-your-face high-density photos. The slides are numbered for easy reference and the unit is structured into modules, which can be taught in any order, either separately or collectively.
The unit begins with a “What do we know” slide with key ideas to help you elicit from your students what they know about the topic. This is designed to be used at both the beginning and end of the unit like a KWL is used. Then the unit is divided into modules, with optional questions and answers slides sprinkled in. At the end of the unit is a “What we have learned” slide for students to summarize what they have learned in an unstructured and open-ended way. Finally, there are two slides devoted to some of the key science terms and grade-appropriate useful words.
