My students had a great time with these books!
We used the taco platform to review author's purpose. Students wrote 3 tacos:
-to persuade dragons to come to their taco party
-to inform how to make a taco
-to entertain with a taco/dragon theme
Each writing was wrapped up in a taco shell. The title taco shell, Tres Tacos, has an About the Author page.
We used the invitation to invite parents to come to our Author's Party where students got to read their tacos to their parents. There is a headband that students can attach to a sentence strip and wear as they serve their tacos. (I bought some cheap aprons for my students to wear as well.) It was heartwarming to see my students get so excited to read to their parents!
ELA activities included in this product:
-Cause and Effect
-Parts of Speech (noun, verb, adjective)
-Shades of Meaning words for big and little
-Would You Rather?
-Creative write for book 2, plant a taco to grow a taco tree
-Shopping list to keep a running total of items needed to purchase for a taco party. There are cards with priced items for students to choose what they would like at their party. All items are connected to the story.
This is a great end of the year writing celebration. My students were so excited about writing!
We also did a Bubble Gum themed PIE writing. You can find that in my store:
