We cover this in drama, to be honest, because my school has so many Italian kids and they already know a lot about these characters!
It's cool to see them get excited about their culture and teaching others about it.
This covers Commedia Dell'arte - what it is, and also the origins of stock characters.
The second sheet has a list of some of them, with descriptions.
The last page is used for a workshop...on walking/talking/sitting like their chosen character. They pick a stock character, fill it out, and we do workshops on body language/voice with it.
Leads to a great lesson on CHARACTERIZATION.
TIP - you could also make this into a mini research project in stead, and not give them the second handout with the descriptions.
