This lesson can be used to review or introduce the elements of drama. It focuses around the classic tale by Mark Twain, "The Prince and the Pauper". It has been adapted for kids and includes lots of characters. So, virtually everyone will have a part to read. I chose 10 vocabulary words and created a vocabulary list for writing definitions, a Cornell note-taking sheet, a matching worksheet and a fill-in-the-blank quiz. I picked a few words from the text, but I also chose some content words, such as drama, narrator, etc. Several video adaptations have been made based on this story and can be used to further reinforce the plot and dramatic elements. Use it as a starting point or a supplemental resource. It can be extended by having kids compare comedy and tragedy, exploring the protagonist and antagonist, etc. Enjoy!
