What educators are saying
Description
Do you have the next Stephen Sondheim in your classroom? Teach your students the process of creating a musical of their own! This low prep lesson gives your students an opportunity to work cooperatively and become playwrights and lyricists by adapting a portion of a children's book. It is most successful with students in sixth through eighth grade, especially students new to theater class or in a Language Arts class.
Please note: To teach this lesson, you will need to check your school library or purchase several children's books. I used a Berenstain Bears book for the example. The class could decide upon a particular book they'd like to use. When writing lyrics, students could use a favorite song of their choice with new lyrics to coincide with the book.
Note: I created a digital version of this lesson for you which is included in the product! I split up the students' pages and placed answer boxes on several pages. I hope this helps you.
