This guide takes the guesswork out of teaching dramas and plays in the elementary classroom! It is very simple to use, and is perfect for getting your students to think critically about dramas and plays in a creative, unique way!
The hardest thing for my students to understand about dramas were the elements of a play. I decided that the best way to help them understand what all the terminology was about was to have them write and perform a play!
First, I introduce the elements of a drama through an anchor chart. I use the cute chart topper in this bundle, and the vocabulary cards to help me. There are 15 large cards with definitions - these are the more complex terms, like up-stage and down-stage, stage right and stage left, blocking, dialogue, and stage directions. They are very big, too big for the chart, but I punched holes in the cards and looped them through binder rings to make a flip chart. I hang them on my board with strong magnets. There are also 14 medium-sized vocabulary cards with words that the students have probably heard before - words like costume, make-up, lighting, stage, and theater. These can definitely be used on the anchor chart!
Also included in the bundle are:
*A teacher resource detailing how I teach the elements and writing of a drama
*A mini-script of a play I wrote based on The Tortoise and the Hare (perfect for comparing and contrasting with the original version, if you choose!)
*Reproducible pages for students to write their own drama/play
