Fun activity for elementary and middle school students who are hesitant and not confident in their drawing skills.
There are 4 3D shapes students become familiar with in this lesson. Each will be named at the end of each task...Cube, Square Pyramid, Cylinder and Triangular Prism over Cuboid (Resembles a house). The terms would be primarily for upper grade levels, although they can be introduced to younger students for familiarization and practice.
This is a PowerPoint that is interactive using digital task cards. Students must focus and be attentive to each task card in order to follow the drawing. I don't recommend use of a ruler for this lesson. It's simply a quick and fun way to introduce drawing 3D shapes. At the end of the drawing activity is a word search. There are 10 words they must find in the puzzle related to shapes within 7 minutes. After time has passed, the words and answers will appear on a separate slide.
I've done activities as this for elementary grade levels and they find it fun and challenging. The timed word search does get them a little excited in a good way, and I find that's adequate time for them to get most of the words. This can easily become a part of an interactive visual arts notebook.
