Use this worksheet to practice electron configuration with your students. Put the aufbau principle, Hund's rule, and the Pauli exclusion principle to use with this worksheet!
Students write the abbreviated electron configuration and then fill up the electron orbitals until they get to the valence shell. You should instruct the students that the number of electrons that goes in each subshell comes from the exponents in the abbreviated electron configuration. Then they will add spin up electrons in each subshell until each orbital has a spin up electron. Last, the students should be instructed to add any remaining electrons in the orbitals spin down.
