This lesson is perfect to show student growth on TPEP and other teacher evaluations. It's like a magic trick to administrators, seeing the before and after portraits. The unit takes 2-3 weeks. Big Ideas: Value, Observational Drawing, Contour Line Drawing, Portrait Drawing, Proportion.
This lesson includes four drawing lessons with the culminating project being a self-portrait. Take students through observational drawing, teaching contour line, value through the use of objects such as cubes, wooden shapes, shells and other challenge objects. **(You must supply the objects to use as reference for the observational drawings.)** Next go through the use of drawing on a grid with worksheets that teach how to enlarge on a grid. Take students step-by step with this powerpoint how to draw the basic facial proportions. Finally have students apply the knowledge they've learned through observational drawing, grids and facial structure using a photographic reference to create their self-portraits.
Enjoy this one, the students always amaze me and themselves!
