Twenty reading comprehension questions for the book, "Dream Big: A True Story of Courage and Determination" by and about Boston Marathon race director Dave McGillivray. This book tells the story of Dave when he was a boy who was too little and always picked last at recess to be on a team. He wanted to be a professional athlete more than anything and through his grandfather's love and support, he learned to dream big. He dreamed big enough to run the Boston Marathon as a teenager and later became the race director of the Boston Marathon. He has now run the race every year since he was 18 years old, but has to run after all the other runners have finished late at night. This is an easy book to read, but when I first read it to my fifth graders and only got a few pages in where it mentions that Dave wanted to play professional sports when he grew up, many of my students called out, "That's me!" Thanks also to Dave McGillivray who allowed me to run the "Midnight Run" of the Boston Marathon with him in 2000 when my school department would not let me take the day off to run the race and yes. at mile 21 he smiled and waved to his grandfather in the cemetery!
