This is a 13 slide PowerPoint that addresses the topic of the Dred Scott Case. In the slides there are numerous voice reenactment clips that include the introduction to the court case, reactions from abolitionists and non-abolitionists and a 30 minute discussion on the case from C-Span.
The PowerPoint includes information on who Dred Scott was, his various locations (accompanied by a map displaying free/slave states), a timeline of the case, why this case was important to the civil war and to our lives now, and what happened to Dred Scott after the ruling of the case.
This PowerPoint is best used to as an enrichment activity for students who are already learning or have learned about the civil war. The last slide has an essay homework assignment included.
This PowerPoint was used with a 7th-10th grade Learning Support Class who was studying the Civil War and they took a great interest in it.
