This is a small group reader's theater is for 4 students. This ties science into reading and is a great way to do two things at the same time. This script was intended to introduce or remind students of the water cycle. In the script - It is a hot day and Kenyon is drinking his water bottle when two classmates remind him just how old the water on the planet is and how the water is recycled using the water cycle. They discuss how water is able to stay so clean despite repeated use. At first Kenyon is a little grossed out by the process but he begins to understand the water cycle helps to clean the water as well as move it around. There are is a writing prompt for the students to do at the bottom of the last page. Make sure students look at the vocabulary on the front page.
I use reader's theaters to encourage my students to practice fluency. It is a fun way to do something that they need. Most of my scripts are in black and white so they photo copy easily and do not waste ink. The problem with many other reader's theaters is that students spend a lot of time waiting for their part. When you have a small group they get more practice and you get less off task behaviors.
My name is Melanie Whitesides but my store name is Wonbyone and I hope that your students enjoy this script as much as mine did. If you like this script look for more science related scripts at my store. Please let me know how things go!
