Drive and Read Long Vowels
Includes 196 Cards with Long Vowels with a "sneaky" e or "silent" e
Print and laminate for repeated use. Use plastic cars. These can be used at the end of a guided reading lesson in small group, as a supplemental aid for one on one to meet student needs and as a reading center activity for students to complete independently.
Student will physically move car across the road while sounding the word out slowly and then physically move the car across fast will saying the word fast. Student first say the first sound then the second sound. Blend the two sounds together and then blend the third sound. Have students drive the car on the road as the they blend the sounds.
You could tell students to sing the word as they read or that while the car is moving they are still saying the sounds to discourage multiple pauses between sounds.
Example: /c/ /a/ /t/ (said slowly) and then quickly blending the sounds together to read the word as cat.
