Thanks for stopping by!
There are 4 colored and 4 gray-scale game boards included in this pack, featuring all consonant letters (including “qu”) in varied fonts. There are 5 short vowel dice templates included, featuring 6 common short vowel rimes on each—each die features only ONE short vowel sound! I have also included a recording sheet for an added layer of student accountability! ☺
Setup is a breeze. Print either colored or gray-scale game boards on white cardstock. Laminate them for durability. Print the dice templates on white or colored cardstock. Cut them out, fold where indicated, and tape shut. It’s time to play!
I use this game during center time with my kindergartners. Students pick a game board to use individually or with a partner. They roll a die onto the game board. When it lands, the roller combines the consonant onset landed upon with the rolled rime to form a word. To add accountability, I have them write the words they roll and read. It’s fun for them to see if they create more real or nonsense words, too! Students continue to roll, read, and write until time is up. Who can roll and read the most real words?
This game is great for blending practice. My students love any game where they can roll dice! Can you think of other ways to play?
