I noticed my students took a great interest in the 2016 election, so we held a mock election in our classroom. Real-world connection opportunity to teach the students the importance of voting, how we do it, and what our president does for our country. Could be used around any occasion involving election, voting, presidents, etc. Could tie in many things - history, math, compare/contrast, social studies, etc.

2) Voter Registration Cards
3) Graph the Results
Throughout the day, we read two books; Duck for President and Grace for President. We discussed why each candidate would make a good president and I told them to keep their vote a secret. During our daily 5, I called students up to vote for their favorite candidate. They had to hand me their voter registration card before entering the "private voting booth". I had a ballot box that they slipped their vote into. They also received a flag sticker after voting! At the end of the day, we tied in math by graphing our results and adding all of the votes together as a class. Duck won in our classroom, how about yours?
