We are often asked to create appropriate resources for centres we work with. Many ask us for guidance in regards to sleep/rest time.
This is a simple resource we created to give children a visual of their options during the quiet part of the day.
How to use
Show the children the poster and begin a discussion about what they think the pictures mean.
Ask the children for their ideas of appropriate things to do while children are resting.
Talk about respecting other people's needs:- why do we need to rest? What do our brains do while we are resting? What do our bodies do while we are resting? How do we feel when we don't get enough sleep? How do the children think their peers will feel if they don't get the rest they need? Do we want them to feel this way? How can we support our peers need for rest and relaxation?
If you have any more suggestions please feel free to send them through to us.
