Product Description
This product is a short (2 columns on almost 2 full pages) script on DUST STORMS IN THE DUST BOWL. The script involves students in reading and reviewing information about the intensity of the dust storms in the Great Plains during the 1930s. It can serve to enhance Common Core Aligned novel units on “Out of the Dust” and “The Grapes of Wrath” and the informational texts used in Social Studies focused on the Dust Bowl.

The script has 20 solo speaking parts, but a smaller group can easily perform it by having speakers double up on lines. There are also many parts for ALL so that teachers can use it with a whole class.

Reading and rehearsing the script introduces and reinforces information while increasing reading fluency and engaging students in a dramatic approach to learning history. Students enjoy creating and performing gestures and sound effects where indicated in the stage directions. And—because it is a script—they do not mind reading and re-reading the information. This Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre script is one of many I have created with students and teachers across the United States.
