Dwight Eisenhower Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- This is a 12 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 41 questions based on a History Channel video (The U.S. Presidents Series on YouTube) and the History.com website.
Students will begin this assignment by watching the U.S. Presidents Series Video: Dwight Eisenhower (on YouTube). The video will introduce the time period and go over the key themes and events of Eisenhower's presidency. This video will first analyze what led Eisenhower to the White House and briefly touch on his World War 2 career. His role in ending the Korean War, the creation of the Interstate Highway system, and his uneasiness with rapid desegregation in America are all highlighted as some of the key events of his first term in office. The beginning of the space race and Eisenhower's support of South Vietnam are also reviewed in the video. Following the video, students will proceed to the History.com website and read a biographical article about Dwight Eisenhower. Much more information regarding his early years and extensive military career is covered in this reading. The article then goes on to list in greater detail Eisenhower's domestic and foreign achievements as president. His continued yearning for peace is highlighted in the article as is his warning regarding the “military-industrial complex” in his farewell address.
