Such an AMAZING, SIMPLER way to teach 2,3,4 (and more) digit division by 1 digit divisors in a way that makes sense! Using the Short "Bus Stop" Method teaches students to use metal math and see how many are "left over" and waiting at the "bus stop" with the next digit in the dividend. No more long lines of multiplication and subtraction and bringing down the next number. Once students understand the "short method", the "long method" makes so much more sense!
Starting with a guided page to work through together, with a poster and smaller reference card for students, the booklet moves to: dividing by 2's (by 2 digit, 3 digit, and 4 digit), from more support (using boxes to place the "waiting" numbers) to less support (no boxes), from no remainders, to having remainders, to with and without remainders. The same pattern is followed for dividing by 3's, 4's, 5's, 6's, 7's, 8's and 9's. Each page has the multiplication table included at the bottom of the page so students can focus on mastering the division process and reinforce their basic facts.
LOTS of practice for mastery.
Use the pages you need for the number of digits you want. Once students understand the process, the number of digits can just keep increasing without any stress.
This has been the best way to teach division where I've seen such understanding of the process. My kids have loved this method!
