Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three- phoneme (CVC) words.
Add or substitute individual sounds (phonemes) in simple, one-syllable words to make new words (e.g., “at” → /sat/ → /mat/ → /map/).
Demonstrate basic knowledge of one-to-one letter-sound correspondences by producing the primary or most frequent sound for each consonant.
Say a word that matches both the picture and the initial consonant sound without reminders or other help. Reread to correct when necessary
Associate the short sounds with common spellings (graphemes) for the five major vowels.
Read at least 25 high-frequency words by sight with speed.
Read unfamiliar text independently, sustaining concentration, monitoring comprehension, with 95-100% word accuracy, and when useful, rereading.
