Product Description

This FREE SAMPLE phonics reading and dictation passage is perfect for reading intervention with older students, upper elementary pupils, middle school students, EFL and ESL. The passages are very helpful for dyslexic students and for reading remediation as they constantly reinforce the sounds being learned through reading, writing and listening. This is a very effective way of embedding the sounds for students who have working memory difficulties.

See the full set of worksheets and reading passages here.

  • Read the passage, starting with the 'tricky' words which are shown at the top of each reading sheet.
  • Have your student copy out the passage or dictate the passage to your student. (Dictation is a very powerful tool with struggling readers and develops so many skills).
  • Re-read the passage and answer the simple questions that reinforce spelling and check for understanding.

Test phonics knowledge quickly, simply and effectively with this form.

If you have students with missing phonics knowledge then these worksheets will help to reinforce any weak areas. Dictation practice is fantastic for improving spelling and concentration and I have great success using this method. These worksheets are based on over-learning. The sound is used repeatedly and I try hard to keep the rest of the text de-codable and straight forward to read. Use of difficult words damages the confidence of struggling readers.
