PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Thank you so much for considering this great resource for you and your students. I did my very best to pack it with relevant, powerful, and engaging warm ups for your students during your unit using a dystopian text.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The presentations have been created with special attention to clean, inviting graphic design. Each slide is color coordinated and labeled according to the type of warm up activity and Common Core State Standard that it addresses.

The resource includes FOUR warm ups per category listed below:

WF – Writing Fluency (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.11-12.10 Write routinely over extended time frames (time for research, reflection, and revision) and shorter time frames (a single sitting or a day or two) for a range of tasks, purposes, and audiences.)

QR – Quote Reaction (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.4 Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in the text, including figurative and connotative meanings; analyze the cumulative impact of specific word choices on meaning and tone (e.g., how the language evokes a sense of time and place; how it sets a formal or informal tone).)

CC – Cultural Connection (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.9 Analyze how an author draws on and transforms source material in a specific work (e.g., how Shakespeare treats a theme or topic from Ovid or the Bible or how a later author draws on a play by Shakespeare).)

FE – Find Evidence (CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RL.9-10.1 Cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text.)

With this resource, you will have the first five minutes (plus discussion time afterwards) planned for 16 lessons! That's three weeks that you can breathe easy :-)

How to use this resource:
Your classroom routines are your own, but here’s a quick peek at how I use this in my sophomore class:
-Students know that the first five minutes of class is time for our Wake Up Warm Ups. They know that they are to enter the room, read the screen, and begin responding in their Wake Up Warm Up notebooks.
-I have a timer counting down from 5:00 so students always know how much time remains.
-At the end of five minutes, I check in with the kids: they either keep writing or start discussing their responses!
-Class discussion about the warm up can be as simple as sharing with a partner, or as elaborate as a large scale class discussion.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goals of this resource:
-Provide you with the first five minutes of your day PRE-PLANNED so you can get done what you need to: take attendance, talk with a student in the hall, etc.
-Enhance your classroom with an additional layer of CCSS practice on a small scale. Each different type of warm up is Common Core aligned for 9-10, but can easily be used with middle school or upper grades.
-Help you get students talking about dystopia in a larger context outside of the single play that you are studying in class.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope you enjoy the product and leave me some feedback! I also create custom presentations by request, so feel free to shoot me a message and we'll put together something amazing for you and your kiddos.
