This author of this article compares the current state of America to the society in "The Hunger Games" and argues that America today shows signs of being a dystopian society more so than the society described in "The Hunger Games".
Collaborative Classroom Activity:
This is one of my favorite ways to keep students engaged while reading a challenging, informational text. Students make appointments with other students (using the including "Appointment Tracker") and collaboratively figure out the answers to a number of text dependent questions (at each appointments) after reading the text as a class or in partners.
I have had great experience with this strategy! It gets students excited, allows them to have a variety of partners that they can work with and they are actually reading and responding to informational text!
Things Needed for Assignment and Activity (all included):
• The link to the high-interest article
• 20 text dependent questions that are used for comprehension of the informational text
• Answer key that gives "Possible Student Answers"
• My "How to Make this Work in Your Classroom" guide with tips and explanations of strategies used
Again, this is one of my favorite topics paired with one of my favorite collaborative classroom activities! I would LOVE to hear about your experience with both! Please, please leave me any type of feedback and I will be one happy-go-lucky teacher!!!
