This unit includes instructional pages for students that are able to be photocopied. It also includes teacher tip pages and student peer assessment rubrics. The lesson objectives are listed below.
Dystopic Literature Student (Lesson) Objectives:
• Students will explore the meaning of utopia and see how the concept applies to literature. Then students will explore dystopic societies and how writers use them to portray warnings about society.
• Students will actively read, and annotate a piece of dystopic literature and analyze what the author is trying to express about the path society is on and the possible consequences in the future.
• Students will then write an analysis of the dystopic elements within the text including no less than four in-text citations.
• Students will also present their analysis of their designated theme or topic to the class explaining the significance they found it to have within their text.
