"Bilingual and Multilingual Learners from the Inside-Out: Elevating Expertise in Classrooms and Beyond"
(This download is provided in PDF format and is ideal for reading on iPads, eReaders and computer screens).
This book is designed to give all teachers a strong base of knowledge and practical expertise with ESL/ELL/EAL students (or bilingual and multilingual learners). It offers a mix of theory, little-known research, teaching tips and strategies through a highly-engaging and personalized writing style, complete with illustrations and case studies. This 300-page book is the textbook for an 8-week certified course of the same name at the Institute for Educators of BMLs (www.educatorsofbmls.com). It provides an international perspective on bilingual and multilingual learners in mainstream English schools.
Bilingual and multilingual learners (BMLs) or ESL/ELL students are the fastest growing student group in the world today. Yet while this changing landscape of students requires more highly-skilled teachers than ever-before, research shows that mainstream educators receive very little, if any, professional development to support them in their work with BMLs.
This book takes teachers on a thought-provoking journey as they explore the “inside-outs” of bilingualism and multilingualism through the lens of their own schools and classrooms. It also introduces them to important research and high-impact teaching approaches that allow BMLs to thrive. It engages teachers and gets them to reflect on the hard questions that form the heart of their work. "Bilingual and Multilingual Learners from the Inside-Out" is a comprehensive, professional development solution for schools and teachers, helping them understand how to harness BMLs’ cultures, languages and diverse experiences for thinking and learning.
