The resource has been updated to include digital and print access using the new interactive digital layer tool. I have created my own version, available to buyers, but buyers can create their own version too, depending on their needs for their students.
Earth Day, with an emphasis of this resource is on vocabulary. Most of it is suitable for grades 7 and 8 (and strong grade sixes) and could probably be useful for some grade 9 students. Please check the preview for the vocabulary lists and cloze exercises to ensure they are a good fit for your class.
This resource includes
--- Three cloze activities about Earth Day:
1) The Birth of Earth Day; 2) The First Earth Week; and 3) Earth Day Since 1970.
At the top of each of the three pages, a selection of nine vocabulary words is included for students to choose from to complete the blanks. Not only will students learn about the history of Earth Week and Earth Day, they will use context clues to complete the sentences about the commemoration of our planet and environmentalism;
--- Also included is a page for each of the cloze sections (number 1, 2, and 3) where students define the chosen nine words for each section and there is a short “word work” activity as well;
---A full answer key is provided for all six student work pages.
I created another Earth Day resource called A Brief History of Earth Day for my store a couple of years ago. I adapted the cloze activities in this resource from the informational texts I wrote for that one. I used reliable sources for the information used in the passages. That resource is more suitable for older students; this one has been adapted for middle school.
This resource is part of a small bundle of two items that can be seen here:
