This is a lesson that leads children through a "mind-journey" meeting with the Easter Bunny.
The lesson is taken from my forthcoming book: MIND-JOURNEYS: a new way to teach creative writing.
Lead the children through some CHILL exercises. e.g. shrugging shoulders, clenching and relaxing hands, feet, arms and legs or imagining their worries have all been put inside a huge pink balloon that is sailing through the air.
Darken the room and get the children to sit with legs crossed and hand on knees. (Concentration posture.)
Eyes are shut.
Slowly read the visualization and then ask children to write about what they saw on their "mind-journey". (Worksheet provided.)
After writing for 7 minutes, they share and editing and colour the provided picture of the Easter Bunny.
Kids LOVE this approach and usually write 2/3x as much as usual. It accesses their ability to imagine and use the right side of the brain to improve creative writing.
