I have created these squares to help with student participation during a lesson. I do not use them as formative assessments, although you may. I have cut out the squares, laminated them, and then stapled them to the end of a popsicle stick (green on one side and red on the other). After allowing students to Think Pair Share and then share whole group, I ask the students if they agree or disagree with what was said. They show me green for agree and red for disagree. I then ask students who disagree to elaborate on their stance. These squares allow me to scan the room and engage the students in further questioning. They also allow the students to respond in a judgement free zone. Once you put them together, you are done! Kids love using them and are eager to participate. Please let me know if you have any questions!
