Checking everyone's homework in the morning is not a fun task and takes too much time! For that reason I created an easy homework checking system that one child from each table group is assigned to do each week.
In the beginning of the week, I print one form for each table group. I type the assignment names in the appropriate spot and write who the assigned Homework Checker is for that week. Then, when the Homework Checker comes in, they write everyone's name at their table group, and then they check off homework. If somebody did not complete their homework then they put a circle next to the assignment. They also have to tell the person they are marking the assignment incomplete. If they did complete their homework then they put a check mark next to the assignment. If the student is absent then they put AB.
After the Homework Checker is done, they come up to me and show me the form. I quickly mark any incomplete assignments on my homework recording sheet, and I have them keep the form in their desk for the rest of the week. On Fridays, I collect the form along with everyone's homework. I staple all their homework from that week together, and I double check to make sure everything is correct.
It is very easy for me to see who completed or did not complete their assignments. It also reduces the amount of time I use to spend each day checking homework.
My students have a 3-ring binder which they keep all their homework in. Every morning they bring their binder into class and open it to their homework. Their homework is separated into an ELA and Math divider, so it is easy for the Homework Checker to find their homework.
