Students can't be what they can't see! Help expose students to STEM careers with these weekly STEM career challenges.
(Check back for more as I finalize the files and upload them to my store.)
Each STEM career challenge includes an editable PowerPoint file. Each week follows a predictable format, to encourage student ownership and a sense of routine! Be sure to select "View" "note" in PowerPoint so you can see the teacher notes. Please email me with ANY questions you have about these!
Day 1: Introduction and link to a sample Padlet where students work individually or in teams to preview their learning, reflect on what they already know, and ask questions. (Like the "K" on a KWL chart!). This link is a sample, and though you are welcome to use it, it will be cleared out on a regular basis over weekends. Preferred: edit with your personal link. Email me if you need assistance here!
Day 2-4: Various videos, resources, and learning challenges.
Day 5 (if not a continuation of the challenge): Students return to the Padlet to reflect on their learning and answer each other's questions.
Not only are these activities engaging and hit standards, but they show students that what their learning applies in the real world. They BECOME members in the career field and must apply their learning to solve real world problems!!
In my classroom, I use spend about 10-20 minutes daily on these challenges. I often use them to introduce new activities, new technology tools, or to assess a standard. They also pair well with classroom transformations and themes!
The CIA agent challenge is a perfect way to introduce your students to STEM careers. Instead of a lengthy challenge, this includes daily tasks to teach students about the career and make them familiar with tools and strategies, such as "Tweet-Tweet" and PaperSlide videos.
This activity pairs well with a spy lab classroom transformation and a BreakoutEdu game!
