Description

Hot Seat is my most competitive game I play with my students, and they LOVE it! This version is now editable within Google Slides (TM). This game set covers the preterite and imperfect tenses (el pretérito y el imperfecto). I love La Silla Caliente because it is a great way to get ALL of my students engaged at the same time, and allows me to formatively assess where every student is individually! This game uses movement to keep students motivated and eager to play :) But you can adjust by passing a "key" item between team members if you don't want movement.

You will download a PDF that contains a link to your own editable copy within Google Drive. There is also a link to your own copy of the Editable Digital Score Tracker I designed for this activity!

This game of LA SILLA CALIENTE (hot seat!) assesses student knowledge of the different uses of the preterite and imperfect tenses.

I love this game because all students play, and all students MATTER!! If you've never played before, directions are on the first slide. Please check out the preview to get a better idea!

The presentation provides 30 questions/prompts, with each answer on the slide immediately following the question. There are five question categories that move from concrete to abstract.

1) The first group of questions gives situations (in English) and asks students to identify the needed tense for specific situations. (x5)

2) The second category gives preterite and imperfect "buzzwords" in Spanish, and asks students to identify the needed tense based on the key word. (x5)

3) The third category provides example sentences in Spanish, and asks students to identify whether the sentence is an example of the preterite or imperfect tense. (x5)

3) The fourth category has Spanish sentences with fill-ins, where students are given the verb but must decide the tense and the conjugation. (x10)

5) The final group provides open ended, short answer questions to challenge students to use the preterite and imperfect tenses where needed. (x5)

This is my most popular game with my high school students. They beg for it!

Directions for the game as well as an answer key are PROVIDED in the slideshow itself! Check out the preview to get a better idea. Enjoy!
