This EDITABLE PowerPoint contains 45 essay prompts that can be customized and tailored to the specific needs of your individual classes!
There are 15 well organized prompts each for argumentative, informative and persuasive writing. Each format also includes a specific rubric for simplistic grading! These prompts are versatile and can be used to fill a variety of needs. They make a wonderful beginning of the year diagnostic to discover where your students’ writing abilities lie. Additionally, these topics are great to use as a summative assessment after practice working with a specific writing format, and, they make for a great independent writing project that allows students to research their topic!
Lastly, they are also excellent to have on file for those days that require quick emergency sub plans!
There are many kinds of topics for students to choose from to maximize student engagement and output!
Please note! There are two fonts used in this file: Garamond and American Typewriter. If you don't happen to have the fonts on your computer then it could possibly affect the formatting a little bit, therefore, if it does not download exactly as it looks in the preview that is why (the preview is a PDF).

Text Types and Purposes:
Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.
Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.
Production and Distribution of Writing:
Produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience.
Develop and strengthen writing as needed by planning, revising, editing, rewriting, or trying a new approach.
Research to Build and Present Knowledge:
Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, assess the credibility and accuracy of each source, and integrate the information while avoiding plagiarism.
Conventions of Standard English:
Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.
Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing.
