This is a PowerPoint presentation. Each slide contains 1 photo or picture showing spelling and grammar errors in real life situations, such as shop signs, posters, etc. The images contain a huge range of spelling and grammatical errors including your/you're, maybe/may be, buy/bye, ladie's/ladies', just to name a few. The PowerPoint took me many many hours to create, so this is really saving you time, and teaching spelling, grammar, punctuation and editing skills all in a real-life, fun context!
I used this PowerPoint with my mainstream Grade 5 class, and it was a huge hit! You could use it in different ways and with many grade levels. I got my students to locate the error on each slide and write what they thought the correct spelling or grammar was. We then marked each one as we went, and then worked out the class champ at the end. You could also show one or two each day as a quick tuning in activity.
I encouraged my class to start noticing similar errors in their own lives, and collect photos of them to bring into school and make a wall of 'silly adult errors'. The kids were so engaged and motivated by this!
Please note, I have not included any answers, but teachers shouldn't have any problems working out the errors and explaining them to their students.
