This is a 2-page, double copies per page, step-by-step set of directions for students to create an original comic strip re-telling a mystery short story through both word and image. This activity can easily be used in a Creative Writing elective, or in any unit focused on plot development and analysis in any ELA course, grades 6-12.
As can be noted in the preview, you may wish to revise the grading rubric to be utilized for either a formative or summative assessment, but either way: you'll be encouraging students' creativity as well as application of plot, character development, and teamwork. In this way, you'll be urging students into the higher levels of Bloom's Taxonomy (eg. moving beyond understanding/comprehension into application, analysis, evaluation, AND synthesis/creating); you'll ALSO invite students to develop the Common Core State Standard expectations of 21st Century skills, including creativity, collaboration/communication with problem-solving as well as innovation.
You may wish to couple this activity with any of my other ELA creative writing introductions / lessons / PowerPoints which I offer in my TpT store.
I appreciate you stopping by my TpT store, and would love to hear any feedback you're willing to share! Thanks so much, and enjoy!
