ELA Common Core Anchor Standards: a requirement to gauge student learning, to keep your lesson plans aligned with what all students, grades K-12, should have practice, practice and more practice with to build skills to build success. The Anchor Standards are just that: anchors for a student to create stability and security and provide a sequence of skills to build from and create a foundation and to anchor, or prevent, students from floating away between kindergarten and graduation. And, as educators, ELA Anchor Standards are for us to return to again and again in order to perfect these skills in our students for the success of their future in college or career training. Included is an Anchor Standard ELA Word Wall with each anchor standard, it’s meaning, an image to create a visual link to the skill students’ need to master from K-12: the fundamental skills we want students to have when they graduate from high school. This is a LIFE LONG tool for you, regardless of the grade you teach now, what you want to be teaching, what you might find yourself teaching, you can a laminate these and have them to post again and again each new school year to help your students see the sequence of skills that they will practicing and as a visual for you, too, when giving your mini lesson, creating lesson plans, during the critical moments of surprise teacher evaluations, as evidence of using daily the common core for your instruction, for parents to see during open house, for your yearly portfolio and the list goes on! Either post them as a whole set, or in smaller subsections when focusing on reading, writing, speaking and listening, and language or any combination which serves you best and your students in front of you.
Please leave a comment and let me know how the word wall and reflection component add to your class and thank you! Best, Rockermom
