This graphic organizer I have created is to help me sort through and keep the ELA Common Core State Standards at the forefront of my daily lesson planning in Literacy. In my district, we are required to start teaching the Common Core for the 2013-14 school year.
My school district does not have a school wide reading program using basal readers so our teachers use a Reader’s Workshop approach. We use guided reading as well as some components of the Daily Five such as read to self, read to a buddy, writing, and word work. For our Reading Comprehension, we select our own books to teach the comprehension strategies. We also choose our own methods of how to teach Phonics and Language.
I developed this organizer from different “blueprints” from different state websites, including South Dakota. For my own personal reasons, I wanted a graphic organizer that included: a list of standards; a place to write comments; a checklist of which standards to teach when; and a method of breaking the standards down into Units of Study.
This graphic organizer might also be what you are looking for to get you started on teaching the Common Core State Standards.
