Do you know how the Common Core Standards build upon one another each year? This cheat sheet is a quick reference to look at the Common Core Standards. It reflects the unity of the standards. It can be helpful to educators looking to vertically align curriculum, as well as to boil down the wording and get to the heart of what the standards are saying.
This cheat sheet applies to Kindergarten through 8th grade. Some key features of this chart:
• I’ve combined the Reading standards. Both Reading Literature and Reading Informational Text focus on the same skills using a different genre.
• Though students are dealing with different levels of text and the complexity of the responses to reading material, essentially students will focus on the same type of skills (ie. Main Idea and Details for Reading standards 1-3) at each grade level.
• The Language standards have the most variation within the standards. This is due to the nature of language development.
• As students progress into higher grades and their mastery of the English language develops, the CCS becomes increasingly more complex.
This can be used to show parents what the CCS mean in user-friendly terms.
